CORFU. To what extent the existing infrastructure can support the tourism to the island.
The two evening sessions of the αείForum at the Ionian Academy on Saturday focussed on different approaches to Corfu's carrying capacity. During the discussion the experiences of the police, presented by Deputy Chief Kostas Vlachopoulos, and the hospital, presented by Director Phivos Kakavitsas, were of especial interest.
The topic was introduced by Dimitris Paniperis on behalf of Corfu travel agents and Aris Batsoulis from Corfu Port Authority, who is Vice-President of the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports, talked about it as it relates to cruises.
Alberto Coltrona, from the Marco Polo Network, presented the experiences of Venice and Heather Skinner presented the findings of the University of Manchester symposium on the priorities for Corfu tourism.
Sunday's sessions will be on technology, with presentations from Ionian University representatives, and new tourist investment. The announcements from the Municipality regarding the organization and funding of a Destination Management Organization are also keenly awaited.
