CORFU. The Peace Boat is in Corfu following its first stop in the Mediterranean at the Port of Piraeus.
The ship and its passengers were welcomed at the port by a Corfu delegation headed by Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos and Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vassilis Kavadias. The 1,000 passengers, amongst whom are survivors from the Holocaust in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, are bringing a message of world peace.
The Peace Boat set sail on its 99th world journey from the port of Yokohama on Saturday 1 September where hundreds of people gathered to see it off.
It is the first time the ship is sailing in collaboration with the UN SDG Action Campaign. It departed from Japan with the purpose of inspiring and mobilizing people to take action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The journey round the world aims to promote the 17 UN targets for sustainable development, one of which is to combat sea pollution.
The Peace Boat will be travelling for a total of 100 days.
