Incidents at last night΄s protest in Lefkimmi

Lefkimmi residents continue their daily protests against the landfill and the police presence in the area.

For about three hours on Thursday night there was a charged atmosphere and several incidents. Residents gathered at Melikia and proceeded along the Neohori path towards the landfill, which is still cordoned off by police. According to police sources, some of the protestors started throwing stones and molotovs and the police responded with chemicals. Fire broke out at the perimeter of the landfill due to one of the molotovs and the Fire Service was called out.

There were no detentions but charges were filed against persons unknown for arson, explosions, attempted bodily harm and weapons.
