CORFU. A lot of it has gone to local communities without following the proper formal procedure.

At yesterday's Town Council meeting Vassilis Armeniakos from the Laiki Sispeirosi party asked what had happened to the equipment and furnishings that were donated by the Andreadis Group when the former Chandris Hotel was being renovated.

The answer given by the Deputy Mayor for Finance Giorgos Pantelios was surprisingly honest: "We don't know if we did the right thing after all when we accepted the donation because we don't have enough personnel in the public property department to manage it properly. Of course everything was properly recorded by Deputy Mayor Andreas Skoupouros, it has been declared to the tax office as a donation etc. The equipment and furnishings have been stored in various local districts.

However, we have discovered that a lot of it has been used by the local communities with the acceptance of their local presidents. Nothing has gone to private individuals or entities and there are no items of great value but we have requested that the community presidents make formal requests. This hasn't happened yet except in the case of the Palaiokastritsa district."
