Corfu Festival
13 Sep 2018 / 08:54

CORFU. The town was filled with youthful songs and colours. Almost everywhere you turned you found choirs - some from the other side of the world!

This wonderful festival began on the morning of Wednesday 12 September with a Friendship Concert in the Old Town Hall Square.

In the evening the competitive part of the festival began at the Municipal Theatre with the first part of the traditional music competition where choirs from China, Thailand, Romania and other countries performed music from their countries.

At the same time there was another Friendship Concert in St. Spyridon Square (Plakada tou Ag. Spyridon) with choirs from Denmark, Greece (Dimodikos Municipal Choir), Spain and Finland.

There was a concert for the official opening of the Festival at the Old Fortress. Choirs from Greece (Corfu Children's Choir), Thailand, Turkey, China, Argentina and Estonia gave a foretaste of what is to come over the next few days.

Second Day

The competitive part of the Festival continues at the Municipal Theatre with Children's, Youth, Mixed and Women's Choirs and traditional music groups. At the same time there will be international performances in the Old Town Hall Square and St. Spyridon Square (Plakada tou Ag. Spyridon).

The second day closes with a parade of all the choirs starting at 18:00 at the Gymnastics Centre. The parade will pass through the Old Town and end up at the Old Fortress for an official welcome. At 20:00 there will be a Pop Evening with choirs from Poland, Argentina and Britain along with Voting Committee member Tobias Hug.
