OTHONI. Othoni Port Authority was called out on Thursday afternoon when the vessel Atlantis II ran aground on a sandy beach on the island.

The vessel, which sails under the Italian flag and had four foreign nationals on board, ran aground in the Ammos inlet on Othoni Island.

Due to the bad weather conditions and the fact that the vessel wasn't anchored, it was swept for 30 metres before running aground. The local Port Authority responded immediately and removed the passengers - who were all well - from the yacht. When the weather conditions improved the vessel was pulled off the shore.

Othoni Port Authority, which is carrying out the investigation, has prohibited the sailing of the Atlantis II until a certificate of seaworthiness has been provided by the Register of Shipping. There were no injuries and no sea pollution.
