Rehabilitation Unit at Corfu Hospital

ATHENS. The General Secretary at the Ministry of Health Mr. Vardaros promised that the Rehabilitation Unit at Corfu Hospital will be certified by the end of September.
The promise was given at a meeting at the Ministry on Tuesday at which the Mayor and Regional Governor were present. It was also agreed to include the Crisis Support Unit for Natural and Technical Disasters in the Civil Protection programme.
Also present at the meeting were Corfu MP Kostas Pavlidis, Deputy Regional Governor for Social Policies Mr. Mihalas, Hospital Director Phivos Kakavitsas and the Director of the Rehabilitation and Crisis Support Units at the hospital Elias Mihalareas.
Mr. Mihalas said that the Ionian Islands Regional Administration was preparing to set up a permanent network of rehabilitation units on the islands which will be funded through the Ionian Islands Business Programme (PEP). The same meeting on the same subject and with the same attendees also took place last October when it was confirmed that the two units would be established at the hospital.
Social Structures and Activities
The Monitoring Committee decided to extend support for Social Structures and Activities for another three years now that funds have been guaranteed through the Ionian Islands Business Programme (PEP) 2014-2020.
Support will be provided for the following existing facilities: 5 Community Centres, 2 Daily Care Centres for those with Special Needs, 3 Daily Care Centres for Seniors and the Hostel for the Homeless.
A 2-year extension - bringing it to 5 years now - has also been given to the provision of support to the 3 Advisory Centres for female victims of violence and the Hostel for Abused Women.
As regards Social Activities, the operation of the following has been extended for another 3 years: Provision of Childcare Services, Care of Children with Special Needs and specialized support for pupils with special needs.
