Othoni Island to get doctor - in memory of Nikos Pithamitsis

ATHENS. Three weeks after the previous doctor left and three days after the sudden death of a local resident - with no help available.
Following a request from the Deputy Minister for Health Pavlos Polakis, the Deputy Minister for Defence approved the appointment of a military service doctor to the small island.
According the statement that was issued, "The appointment of this doctor, as with the dozens of other doctors that have been sent to Multi-Purpose Regional Surgeries (PPI), Regional Surgeries (PI) and Health Centres (KY) in remote areas, is part of the community mission of the Armed Forces. It is recognized as part of the doctors' military service and field duties, with the Ministry of Health covering the costs."
