CORFU. Extraordinary size and design
The largest yacht in the world, Sailing Yacht A, passed by the north coast of Corfu on Sunday evening, stunning all those wo were lying on the nearby beaches at the time.
It reached the inlet at Garitsa and moored offshore near Anemomylos - immediately drawing everyone's attention with drivers stopping on Garitsa shore road to take photos.
The yacht, designed by Frenchman Philippe Starck, dwarfed all the other nearby boats. It is owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Gurevitz Melnichenko and is 143 metres long with 25 metre beam. According to media, it is worth over 400 million Euros (500 USD) and can reach a speed of 21 knots with its hybrid diesel-electric powerplant.
The boat has 8 decks and 3 swimming pools with wave-making machines. One of them has a glass bottom, allowing wonderful views of the sea below. It can accommodate 14 passengers and has a crew of 42. The owner's cabin is larger than a lot of London apartments and according to the Daily Mail, it has a rotating bed and the windows are built to withstand bomb explosions
