CORFU. Damage to a main water pipe caused a torrential flow of water in Desyllas St. near the open-air market.
There had been a crew from the water company (DEYAK) at the spot yesterday trying to fix the damage but during the night it got worse and at 1:30 in the morning a fountain of water burst out in the road!
Sights like these have become part of everyday life in Corfu.
A DEYAK employee tried to cover the spot in a makeshift way to stop the water from shooting into cars and nearby cafes and restaurants.
This morning a DEYAK crew saw that the damage couldn't be fixed easily - the road needs to be dug up - and so turned off the water supply and put up a warning sign so that they can come back later to carry out repairs.
