Letter from Ionian Islands Regional Administration to ABTA: In 10 days Corfu will have been cleaned up

CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Governor assures British travel agents and tour operators that collection of refuse throughout the island will have been completed in 10 days.
Within the next 3-4 days the large piles of rubbish will have been collected from the road network and in 10 days the collection will have been completed throughout the island.
This is what the Regional Administration stated in a letter to ABTA - the association of British travel agents and tour operators - based on the assurances of Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos.
The Administration says that it is monitoring the refuse collection process and return to the normal everyday routine with continuous checks on the levels of pollution.
The results can already be seen on the island, the Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos stresses and all the necessary measures are being taken in order to implement an integrated waste management system which will solve the problem completely.

According to the Regional Administration, since last Friday the Municipal refuse trucks and those from private companies have been working 24 hours a day and are collecting over 500 tons of refuse a day.
