Refuse collection - What Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos says

Mr. Nikolouzos told Enimerosi that the press release from the Kerkyraion Dimos party contained inaccuracies and created false impressions. He insisted that the procedure to award the refuse collection contract is underway and nothing more needs to be done.

Minister of the Interior Theodorikakos told Corfu TV on Monday evening that he had spoken to the Corfu Mayor, "I spoke to the Mayor and asked him to do everything possible to collect the rubbish. The present situation cannot continue. The problem is quite clear and the refuse must be collected. I suggested to the Mayor what he could do and I believe this will happen. We discussed the matter throughout the weekend in order to find solutions. We had some clear ideas and I believe the Mayor will respond by requesting to exceptionally proceed to the immediate awarding of the refuse collection contract to a company. There is no more time to be lost."

Mr. Nikolouzos has accepted the emergency funding procedure so that the awarding of the contract can proceed as a matter of urgency.
