CORFU. The Ministry of Culture΄s statement following the meeting with Corfu MP Kostas Pavlidis and Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos regarding the Corfu fortresses.

A solution was found to allow cultural events at the Old Fortress to go ahead at Tuesday's meeting at the Ministry of Culture with the Minister's Secretary, Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos and Corfu MP Kostas Pavlidis. There had been a danger of events not being able to happen due to lack of personnel at Corfu Antiquities Inspectorate.

The Ministry of Culture issued the following statement:

The Culture Minister's Secretary Vangelis Politis met with the Mayor of Corfu Kostas Nikolouzos and Corfu MP Kostas Pavlidis in Athens yesterday.

The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the lack of security personnel at the archaeological sites due to which there was a risk of cultural events not being able to go ahead at the Old Fortress. According to Mr. Politis, a Ministerial decision will be signed allowing evening overtime for the security personnel so that events can happen and public income not be lost.

Other topics of discussion were the signing of an agreement to transfer the management of the Art Cafe (a long-standing request from the Municipality) to the Municipality as well as the transfer of management of the New Fortress following the signature of an agreement.

The final issue was the creation of a Printing Museum, which the Municipality has been requesting.
