CORFU. Update from the Municipal Cleansing Services.
1. Refuse collection is progressing as fast as possible in Corfu following the repair of the processing equipment for Urban Solid Waste at Temploni landfill and its return to operation. Vulnerable and high-risk facilities, such as education and health facilities etc., are the first priority as well as areas both in and outside the town and on the road network where large piles have accumulated.
2. The remaining piles of refuse are being sprayed by contractors in order to safeguard public health and areas where refuse is being collected are being disinfected.
3. The Municipal crews, reinforced by earth-moving machines, are working as fast as possible so that refuse collection can happen as smoothly and seamlessly as possible.
In addition, because the Cleansing Service is limited by the lack of personnel, it will be reinforced by the use of contractors so that the work can be completed as quickly as possible.
We would like to thank our fellow residents for doing their best not to overload the piles of refuse by keeping waste or recyclable materials at their property and businesses.
We would like to request that recyclable materials still be kept and not thrown out. They should be deposited in the blue bins once the district or area has been cleaned up - the Cleansing Service will make an announcement about this when necessary.
It should be stressed that the need for 'aggressive' recycling is something that we all need to take personal responsibility for. Each one of us should help reduce the amount of waste that ends up at the waste baler.
