International Museum Day was established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977. Every year, the 18th May is dedicated to a specific theme related to museums and the protection of cultural heritage. For 2018 ICOM has chosen the theme ‘Hyperconnected museums: New approaches, new publics’, as today museums play a key role in relationships created through the internet and are the focus of many and various social networks.
