CORFU. Drivers who have been stopped by the traffic police watch anxiously as firefighters attempt to free the driver from his crashed car.
The accident happened at about 23:00 on Wednesday night when the speeding driver was travelling in the direction away from town. At the 5th km on Eth. Palaiokastritsas Rd - Sotiriotissa - the car crossed the central reservation and ended up in the ditch on the other side - near the memorial to the Kerkyra footballer who lost his life in a road accident.
The fire service arrived on the scene almost immediately and were able to free the trapped 29-year-old driver, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The good news is that the young man is conscious and the hospital emergency department has said that his life is not in danger.
