CORFU. He died at 25 years of age on the morning of 27th April, 1997 near the bay of Panagia Thesprotias, heroically fighting drug traffickers who used to sail daily from the Albanian coast at that time.

he was born in Preveza on 28 March, 1972 and joined the Coast Guards on 4 September, 1995 as a novice coastguard. His parents were from Meganisi in Lefkada and worked hard to make ends meet. His father was a seaman and Marinos used to work even when he was at school. Those who knew him were impressed by his pride, his great kindness, his smile, how unselfish he was, his free spirit and his bravery.
