Increased policing over Easter in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada

CORFU. Increased police checks to prevent illegal distribution and selling of fireworks, thefts and burglaries, illegal trading, road accidents and dangerous driving as well as health and safety infringements in cafes, bars and restaurants.

Patrols of policemen on foot, bicycle and motorbike as well as crime prevention officers will be deployed according to local needs.
 
Police Services have been fully mobilized in the Ionian Islands for the Easter period. This mobilization has been gradually increasing since Holy Monday and will reach its peak over the main days of celebration.
 
The overall strategy for the whole country, but specifically the Ionian Islands, takes into account the particular features of each place and the fact that they attract a large number of tourists. The aim is to provide preventive policing as well as effective intervention in the case of emergencies.
 
The strategy involves the full mobilization of all available personnel and means.  
 
General:
 
- Increased visible policing at busy spots on the islands in order to provide immediate service to visitors and residents.
- Dealing with infringements that disturb commercial activities.
- Regular inspections of cafes, bars and restaurant for offences regarding opening hours, noise levels and health and safety regulations.
 
Traffic:
 
- Prevention of road accidents.
- Combatting dangerous driving which could lead to serious or fatal injuries.
- Traffic policing before and during the religious events.
 
Safety:
 
- Combating illegal possession, manufacture, sale and use of firecrackers, flares, fireworks and other illegal pyrotechnic articles that could cause serious injuries or fatalities.
- Prevention of thefts and burglaries.
- Protection of commercial financial exchanges in busy areas.
