Why is there uncollected rubbish in Corfu?

Complaints have been coming in from several areas of the island about rubbish not being collected and gathering on the roadside.

This has been due to a period of transition - the contracts for the previous personnel came to an end last weekend and the personnel that had been requested for the Cleansing Service officially started on Monday 2nd April. However, not all the new staff turned up and in the transition period normal operation has not yet been achieved. There are also plans to temporarily contract out the collection of refuse and things should be back to normal by the middle of next week.
