Once again, The Smile of the Child reminds children and parents of the extreme dangers if children handle firecrackers and squibs.
The accident figures published every year represent ordinary children and families who suddenly and unexpectedly have to face serious problems.
The Smile of the Child places great emphasis on prevention. The organization has had to deal with many cases which, apart from physical injuries, have also caused serious psychological problems.
Along with the efforts of the police, we, as parents, have a duty to make our children aware of the dangers and the possible consequences of using firecrackers and squibs.
Unfortunately, it is still very easy for children to obtain these fireworks - even from the small corner shop. We must always remember that any kind of firework - firecracker or squib - in the hands of a child becomes a 'weapon' which can cause injuries and so we need to constantly provide the necessary protection.
