Meeting at the Ministry of Transport about the state of Corfu’s roads
CORFU. There may be some hope that Corfu’s ‘bombed-out’ road network may be fixed. The Minister of Transport, Christos Spirtzis, visited Corfu as government representative for the March 25 celebrations and the Corfu Mayor and the Regional Governor took the opportunity to discuss the matter with him.
The Minister agreed with the local and regional representatives that serious action was required regarding the island’s road network and the matter will be discussed at a meeting at the Ministry of Transport at a time to be decided.
According to sources at the Municipality, the meeting at the Ministry to discuss the restoration of Corfu’s road network will be set up during Easter week – Tuesday or Wednesday.
When Mr. Anastasopoulos was Deputy Mayor for Technical Services, a proposal to deal with the problem had been prepared which would cost several million. What is required is adequate studies so that the funds can be properly used even if there is a promise from the government to fund the necessary works.
