Corfu and Novi Sad (Serbia) Municipalities: Friendship and Collaboration Agreement

Last Friday 2nd February, the Municipality of Corfu and the Municipality of Novi Sad, Serbia completed the signing of a Friendship and Collaboration Agreement.

The first phase of the signing had taken place in October 2016 in Corfu, as part of the 300th anniversary of the Ottoman siege of Corfu, given that a similar battle had taken place in Novi Sad (then Petrovaradin).
 
According to the Agreement that Mayors Kostas Nikolouzos (Corfu) and Miloš Vučević (Novi Sad) signed, the municipalities commit:
  • to develop their partnership according to the common cultural elements that connect the two nations
  • to work to strengthen the historical bonds that connect Corfu with Serbia, which were created during the Serbian army’s stay on the island during WWI, and also to preserve the historical memory, by organizing common events on the occasion of the anniversaries of the foresaid historical events.
  • to do everything possible for the organization of various cultural, artistic and athletic events and also for the exchange of delegates on issues of common interest, as well as for the completion of related agreements.
  • to collaborate in one of the most important financial sectors for the two municipalities - the tourism sector.
 
The signing of the Agreement took place on the occasion of the Mayor’s visit to Novi Sad for the celebration of Novi Sad Day on 1st February.
 
The Mayor was accompanied by the President of the Municipal Organization for Culture, Sports & Environment (DOPAP), Nikos Korakianitis.
