50-year-old man’s donated organs airlifted early this morning
CORFU. The donated organs from the 50-year-old man who had been hospitalized in the ICU following his cardiac arrest on 16th January were taken from Corfu General Hospital at 5.30 this morning.
The hospital administration would like to offer its condolences to the family and at the same time to thank them for their humanitarian gesture towards those who have been on the waiting lists for such a long time and will have the transplants this morning.
The administration would also like to thank the Director of the ICU, Epaminondas Farmakis, and the staff who continue to inform people of the need for organ donation and carried out all the necessary procedures to make this particular donation possible – the second in 4 months.
Both the airlift and the identification of suitable recipients were coordinated by the National Transplant Organization (EOM). The operation started at 2 o’clock this morning with the arrival at Corfu Hospital of special units from Thessaloniki and Ioannina to receive the liver and kidneys.
