CORFU. The Regional Governor for the Ionian Islands, Theodoros Galiatsatos, spoke of joint support from the Greek Regions and the Athens Archdiocese for those socially disadvantaged due to the financial crisis, who are suffering serious difficulties in their personal and social lives.

Mr. Galiatsatos was speaking at the formal dinner given by Ieronimos, Archbishop of Athens and Greece, for the country’s regional governors.

The dinner, which took place at the Archbishopric of Athens on Monday night, was arranged following the Archbishop’s frequent visits to the Greek regions and his acquaintanceship with the governors.

According to the Regional press release, Mr. Galiatsatos told the Archbishop of the impeccable relationship that exists between the Region of Ionian Islands and the four Archbishops within the region, all of whom are actively involved in the social partnership ‘Ionian Alliance against Poverty’, which was set up by the Region. The aim of the Partnership, which has 26 member organizations, is to provide immediate support for cases of extreme poverty in the Ionian Islands through material aid and other measures against social exclusion.
