CORFU. Following the retirement of the pneumatologist, Kyriakos Haini, the administration of Corfu General Hospital appointed the cardiologist, Phivos-Antonis Draganigos as head of the Pulmonary Clinic.
The decision provoked the reaction of Mr. Haini who, in a press release he sent to the media, claimed that the hospital administrator, “instead of immediately publicizing the position and at the same time providing a temporary Head for the clinic – as Health Service regulations require – proceeded in an unprecedented manner. He classified the decision as Extremely Urgent and appointed the cardiologist Mr. Draganigos, who is head of the Cardiology and Pathology Departments, as temporary head of the Pulmonary Clinic. It should be noted that, in his announcement, he didn’t refer to the fact that Mr. Draganigos is a cardiologist and head of the Cardiology Department.”
Enimerosi spoke with the hospital administrator, Phivos Kakavitsas, to give him the opportunity to respond to the complaint. Mr. Kakavitsas told us that there had been nothing illegal about the decision and that all the legal procedures had been followed. He said that the hospital administration had chosen to fill the position of Head of Department until the Ministry appointed someone, as had been requested of them. He stated, finally, that the administration will always strive to ensure the smooth running of the hospital, based on the appropriate legal requirements.
