CORFU. The Montenegro Ambassador to Greece, Petar Popovic, visited the Mayor of Corfu, Kostas Nikolouzos, at the Old Town Hall on Thursday morning.

Mr. Popovic expressed his country’s interest in a ferry service between Corfu and Montenegro. He also discussed the development of sea transportation of goods between Igoumenitsa-Montenegro-Croatia-Trieste, citing the increase in the cost of land transportation. The ambassador said that connections between Corfu and towns in Montenegro could also lead to the creation of attractive tourist packages for both Corfu and Montenegro.

According to Mr. Popovic, if Corfu was interested in these ideas, then discussions could be arranged between the mayors of the municipalities.

Mr. Nikolouzos said that the development of economic and cultural relations between Corfu and Montenegro was undoubtedly of interest, but that there needed to be research into how they can best be implemented.
