CORFU.Members of the educational community marched through the streets of Corfu today.
There was a high turnout – mainly of pupils – for today’s demonstration, which set off from the General High Schools at Platitera and continued through the centre of Corfu Town, ending up at Liston.
Taking part in the demonstration were the Greek Association of Secondary Teachers (ELME), school pupils, Greek Parents Association (ASGME), other Parents Associations and Federations and the Hellenic Union of Parents of Music School Pupils.
They stated that their demands were, “The right to education and life, which the young generation has been deprived of by all the governments, who just want people to live and work without rights and for 300 Euros - below the minimum wage.
We demand schools that educate and don’t exhaust young people, we are against the government’s plans for a new type of high school, we are against the lender’s cheques and the orders from the OECD which the government has signed up to.”
