Education Minister Gives Green Light for Tourism Department at Ionian University

 He was speaking at a press conference in Corfu along with the Rector of the Ionian University, Vassilis Chrisikopoulos, and the President of the Technical Educational Institute (TEI) for the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Dragonas.

Earlier, there had been a meeting at which the basis for the consolidation of the university with the TEI was discussed, which was described as a first step in the process of discovering points of convergence. The Minister made it clear that jobs would not be lost and that university qualifications would not be devalued. He agreed with the Rector that the success of the plan depended on financial support and state resources.

The Rector had requested that a Tourism Department should be established at the Ionian University and Mr. Gavroglou agreed that now was the right time to go ahead. Because of the subject and the need for synergy with other university departments, he went on to say that it was absolutely necessary that this department be created in Corfu.
