CORFU.Teachers and the Parents’ Association will request a meeting with the Minister of Education to discuss the reduction in the number of school classes.

Solutions have still not been found for the problems in education in Corfu, with the main issue being the cuts in the number of classes in vocational and general education.

The Union of Secondary School Teachers (ELME) demonstrated today outside the Secondary Education offices, obstructing the meeting of the Regional Board for Secondary Education which was due to discuss the placement of ‘excess’ teachers. The teachers have declared that they won’t allow any placements to be made unless all the classes in Corfu are approved. They also declared their intention to seek a meeting with the Minister of Education, Kostas Gavroglou, who will be in Corfu this weekend.

The Minister is visiting Corfu as the official government representative at the opening of the Capodistrias Museum by the Greek President, Prokopis Pavlopoulos. He will also meet with the Chancellor of the Ionian University, Vasilios Chrisikopoulos, and the President of the Technical Educational Institutions of the Ionian Islands, Ioannis Dragonas.
