΄Friends of Vidos΄ stands by the scouts

CORFU. ‘The scouts are the islet’s only guardians’ — Sharp criticism of the Municipality over neglect and power outage at the campsite.
Letter of support sent by the “Friends of Vidos” Association to the Scouts’ Regional Office following the unfortunate incident at the campsite, which threatens the continuation of Scout camps on the islet.
The letter states the following:

The Board of Directors of the Association for the Protection and Promotion of Vidos “Friends of Vido” expresses its support for the Regional Scout Office of Corfu and its efforts to continue operating the Scout Centre on Vidos.
Your immediate response to a minor leakage incident demonstrates that your planning and preparedness are exemplary, despite the Municipality’s abandonment of Vidos.
For years, we have considered your presence on the island invaluable, as it contributes to the upkeep, cleanliness and safety of Vidos. For decades, through your activities, thousands of children have come to know this jewel of Corfu.
When facilities such as camps and creative activities are abolished; when transport has been left solely to the plans of a private operator; when all the beaches have been abandoned while the restaurant and kiosk remain closed; when the Municipality refuses to open the toilets for visitors; when the fire protection system is not operational because the Municipality refuses to repair a pump; when there is not even a single guard from the Municipality; when even the last visitor leaves Vidos at 17:15 — then the only guardian of Vido is the Scouts.
Those who have long shown indifference towards Vidos found the time to come IMMEDIATELY to cut off the electricity to the children of Corfu and to remove the Vidos caretakers.
