CORFU. Structural cracks, subsidence, and flooding are fueling growing concern, as engineering reports have yet to be finalised.

The Parents’ and Guardians’ Association of Karousades Junior High School is expressing its strong concern and frustration over the condition of the school building, accusing the municipal authorities of delays and indifference.

According to a statement, more than three months have passed since the severe weather event that worsened existing problems in the building, causing ground subsidence, cracks, and flooding in the basement. Despite an on-site inspection carried out by engineers, no clear answer has yet been given regarding the critical issue of the building’s structural stability and safety.

The parents are calling for immediate answers, raising questions of responsibility of the Municipality of North Corfu for the delay in assessing the findings and the lack of communication. “Can we be sure that our children are safe?” they ask pointedly.

At the same time, the decision to establish a Special School in the same locations, despite objections from teachers and parents, is provoking reaction. The associations are making it clear that they support the creation of a special education facility, but stress that appropriate infrastructure is required, which—according to them—the specific building does not provide.

The parents are calling on the municipal authorities to provide clear answers immediately and to ensure, before any planning proceeds, the safety of pupils and teachers.
