CORFU. Persistent and intense rainfall is worsening conditions, with the soil completely saturated and swollen with water.

North Corfu Municipal Civil Protection Service warns the public to exercise the highest possible caution due to the ongoing severe weather, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

Continuous and intense rainfall is worsening the situation, as the ground is fully saturated and waterlogged. This has made the stability of roads, slopes, and hillsides precarious.

Drivers, even on open provincial, municipal, or rural roads, are advised to be extremely cautious regarding road conditions and accessibility due to increased risks from ground subsidence, slope failures, landslides along roads, flooding, potholes, and other hazards.

Key Safety Guidelines During the Weather Events:

  1. Limit unnecessary travel to only what is absolutely essential.

  2. Drive at low speeds and maintain large safety distances.

  3. Avoid parking under trees, retaining walls, or in areas where water tends to accumulate.
