NEW YORK. The Ionian Islands Region was represented by Deputy Regional Governors, Eleni Papanastassatos and Spyros Argyros.

(Ionian Islands Regional Authority) With a high-level tourism promotion event in Manhattan, the Region of the Ionian Islands strengthened its outward-looking strategy toward the American market by organising an exclusive gastronomic event and presentation at the Kellari Restaurant in New York.

The evening showcased the Ionian Islands as a comprehensive destination for experiential, gastronomic, and cultural tourism, through a targeted presentation of their comparative advantages and a specially curated menu by Corfiot chef Tasos Andriotis, inspired by Ionian culinary traditions and accompanied by selected local wines.

The Ionian Islands Region was represented by the Deputy Regional Governors Eleni Papanastassatos—responsible for Entrepreneurship and the Greek Diaspora—and Spyros Argyros—responsible for Small Islands and Interregional Transport. They highlighted the islands’ strong potential and the initiatives implemented by the Region to attract high-quality tourism and extend the tourist season.

As part of the event, a recorded message from the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis, was presented. He stated that, for the second consecutive year, the Region is systematically investing in the American market, capitalising on the steadily increasing flow of visitors from the United States and the close cooperation with the Ionian diaspora.

Special reference was made to the Ionian Islands’ long tourism tradition and the human factor, with Mr. Trepeklis noting that hospitality, courtesy, and respect for visitors have long been fundamental pillars of the local tourism product.

The event in New York, attended by tourism professionals, journalists, institutional representatives, and members of the Ionian diaspora, forms part of the Region of the Ionian Islands’ broader strategic plan for targeted promotional actions in dynamic and emerging markets. This plan emphasises the creation of strong partnerships, the connection of tourism with local production, and the international promotion of the authentic island identity of the Ionian Islands.
