CORFU. The collapse of the wall has partially blocked traffic and caused delays for thousands of drivers using the route.

Numerous issues have arisen across both the main and secondary road network of Corfu. On Friday morning, part of a retaining wall collapsed in Messonghi, near the Miramare Hotel, on the road that links Corfu Town with the island’s southern region.

The collapse has partially blocked traffic and caused delays for thousands of drivers using the route.

Crews from the Ionian Islands Regional Authority were on the scene immediately to assess the damage and begin repair work. Their efforts are focused on quickly removing the debris from the road and stabilising the remaining section of the wall so that traffic can be fully and safely restored as soon as possible.

Drivers are advised to be especially careful and follow the instructions of the Traffic Police, and to use alternative routes where possible until the repairs are completed.
