Lightning and storms hit Corfu
CORFU. The Sky Express flight that was unable to land on Wednesday night had to return.
The atmosphere was literally charged on Wednesday night. Thousands of lightning bolts accompanied the storm, causing flooding in the usual spots prone to problems from poor infrastructure.
The Sky Express flight scheduled for Wednesday night was unable to land at Corfu Airport because of the storm and had to return to Athens Airport.
Antonis Poulis gave a vivid description in a comment under Forecast Weather Greece’s Facebook post:
“It caused real destruction — the streams down in Binitsa brought down rocks and branches, and in Kornata, lightning struck poor Retos’ place! And over in Psorarous, the drain got clogged, the tower overflowed, and the cistern burst!”
The post also noted that many parts of the island were left without power for several hours.
