Famous Morgan State University choir to perform at St. George΄s chapel in Old Fortress

CORFU. The choir will perform on Saturday 25 May - Anemomylos Cultural Society ΄Thomas Flagginis΄ choir will also be performing.

As part of their tour in Greece, the Morgan State University Choir, conducted by Dr. Eric Conway, will be in Corfu on Saturday, May 25, at 8:30 PM, where they will give a concert featuring classical music and gospel works at the Chapel of St. George in the Old Fortress.

The concert is under the auspices of the Corfu Choir Union. The choir will be accompanied by the Anemomylos Cultural Society 'Thomas Flagginis' choir.

Morgan State University Choir

Morgan State University is located in the city of Baltimore, in the state of Maryland, United States. The Morgan State University Choir is one of the most renowned university choirs in the United States and has been proclaimed as the "Best University Choir" by Reader's Digest magazine. Its repertoire ranges from classical music to gospel, where it stands out for its emphasis on preserving the heritage and spirituality of music.

 

It has appeared all over the world and toured across all continents. It collaborates with many major orchestras in the United States such as the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and more.

Some of its most historic performances have taken place at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the White House, following an invitation from President Barack Obama. Its history includes collaborations with famous artists such as Jessy Norman and Bobby McFerrin.

The MSUC choir, as a cultural ambassador of its country, has shared its musical gifts on many major stages worldwide, with numerous dignitaries, famous performers, and international tours.

Dr. Eric Conway is the director of the university choir and chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. As director of the renowned Morgan choir, he has travelled to almost every corner of the globe, conducting the choir in the Czech Republic, Ghana, South Africa, Cuba, Australia, and Colombia, to name just a few.

Conway is a doctoral graduate of the Peabody Institute of Music at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied piano and orchestral conducting and received the prestigious Liberace scholarship. As a pianist, he has performed in the United States and abroad as a soloist and chamber musician. He has also toured in Asia as the orchestral pianist of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Conway's choral achievements include close collaborations with some of the greatest conductors of the 20th century, such as Robert Shaw, Sir Neville Marriner, and Donald Neuen. Additionally, under his leadership, the Morgan choir was nominated for a Grammy award for its participation in the recording of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
