Corfu takes over Presidency of Ioannis Kapodistrias Network

Corfu officially took over the presidency of the Ioannis Kapodistrias Network on Saturday 27th January at the Network’s General Assembly in Aegina.
The Assembly was held to commemorate the arrival of the Governor Capodistrias on the island of Aegina and taking the oath on 26th January 1828.
The Assembly took place at the Church of Christ the Saviour at the Capodistrian Orphanage and Aegina Prison. It was unanimously agreed that the Municipality of Corfu assume the Presidency for the next two years.
During his speech, Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos talked of the Network’s aims and future plans and priorities - expansion to include other cities, such as Saint Petersburg, Paris, Geneva and Padua, the establishment of a scientific committee and of a European Cultural ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’ Route, so as to promote the Governor’s life and work. It is also planned to bring the Parliamentary exhibition ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias: his life and times’ to Corfu Municipal Gallery next May.
During the Assembly, the report of the outgoing presidium’s activities was presented by the Nafplio Municipality Representative and the proceedings of Nafplio General Assembly were approved.
Along with Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos, the meeting was also attended by the Municipal Council President, Maria Mouzakiti, Councilor and President of the Aegina Municipality Committee for the Network, Mr. Tsatiris, the President of the Aegina Municipality Social Services Department, Katy Salpea, Aegina Deputy Mayor, Vangelis Dedes and Nafplio Municipality Representative, Androniki Tzomaka.
