State of emergency officially declared in Central Corfu Municipality due to water shortage.
CORFU. According to the decision, the declaration aims to address the immediate needs and manage the consequences that may arise in the areas referred to due to the occurrence of drought conditions.
(Central Corfu Municipality) The General Secretary for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis officially declared a state of emergency yesterday for the districts of Corfu and Achilleion within the Central Corfu Municipality. This decision followed a request by the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, which was unanimously approved by all factions of the Municipal Council.
According to the decision, the declaration aims to address immediate needs and manage the potential consequences arising in the affected areas due to drought conditions. It will be valid for one month from the date of issuance by the General Secretariat, specifically until December 18, 2024, with the possibility of extension.
The declaration of a state of emergency is intended to accelerate the execution of necessary projects and facilitate the allocation of financial resources from the relevant ministries for this purpose.
This morning the Mayor contacted senior officials from the Water Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Energy to discuss the need for funding for immediate-impact projects. These projects are expected to address the drought problem in the affected areas, with a particular focus on improving the water supply to Corfu Town.
