CORFU. Dr. Mansel showed particular interest in the work of the Reading Society and expressed his enthusiasm, as is evident from his remarks in the Society΄s guest book.
The British historian Dr. Philip Mansel, who specialises in modern Mediterranean history and is a member, among others, of the Royal Historical Society and the Levantine Heritage Foundation, visited Corfu Reading Society.
His book Levant has also been published in Greek under the title: Levant: Splendour and Catastrophe in the Mediterranean.
Dr. Mansel was given a tour of the Society's rooms and the anniversary exhibition of the Reading Society commemorating 200 years since the founding of the Ionian Academy, by the Library Curator Mr. Lindovois and the Society's Director Mr. Zymaris.
Dr. Mansel showed particular interest in the work of the Reading Society and expressed his enthusiasm, as evident from his remarks in the Society’s guest book:
“With gratitude for a wonderful visit and admiration for a magnificent library, which expresses through its books and images the glorious, independent Greek and European traditions of Corfu and the Ionian Islands, showing—as all great libraries do—the importance of the past for the future.”
