A message of peace on this year΄s World Tourism Day

CORFU. Central Corfu Municipality is organising free guided tours in Corfu Old Town, in collaboration with tourist organisations, on Friday 27 September, at 18:30, at the entrance of the Old Fortress

(CENTRAL CORFU MUNICIPALITY): This year's celebration of World Tourism Day is sending a strong message of peace worldwide, Central Corfu Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Sustainable Development, Spyros Halkiopoulos, stated in a press conference. 

Dedicated to this global message is the event organised by the Municipality tonight, Friday, September 27, at 18:30, at the entrance of the Old Fortress, with a series of free guided tours in Corfu Old Town.

It is an opportunity for locals and visitors, to learn more about our history and culture and experience Corfu through the eyes of locals, in collaboration with the Association of Travel Agents, the Hoteliers Association, the Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners, the Ionian Federation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship and the Association of Certified Tour Guides of the Ionian Islands and Western Greece.

"Corfu, with its rich history and unique culture, is a crossroad of people and civilisations, and continues to play an important role as a place of friendship and peace through tourism." the Deputy Mayor said. "Today, more than ever, we must promote sustainable tourism, which respects the environment, the local community and our cultural heritage, while also encouraging understanding and harmonious coexistence between visitors and locals."

Statements were also made on this occasion by the President of the Corfu Hoteliers Association, Babis Voulgaris, the President of the Ionian Federation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship, Kostas Mouzakitis, the President of the Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA), Dimitris Diavatis, and the President of the Association of Certified Guides of the Ionian Islands and Western Greece, Sissy Savvati.
