Music education programme for infants and toddlers at Corfu Surgery

CORFU. The programme is offered by the Department of Music Studies at the Ionian University from 1 February to 31 May.

The Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, in collaboration with the Hellenic Society of Social Paediatrics and Health Promotion – Corfu Branch and the Corfu Medico-Surgical Society, is continuing the Music Education Programme for Infants and Toddlers (ages 10 months to 5.5 years), which has been hosted at the Corfu Surgery since 2008.

The aim of the programme is to strengthen children’s contact with music, as well as to enhance the relationship between parents and their children through music.

For the period 1 February – 31 May 2026, classes will be taught by students of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University (Music Paedagogy specialisation): Magda Koulouri, Marilena Akrivou, Panagiota Margeli, and Elina Nikoli-Melissaratou, with the collaboration of additional undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department.

The scientific coordination and responsibility of the programme is held by Professor Zoi Dionysiou, Professor of Music Paedagogy at the Ionian University.

Classes take place at the Corfu Surgery (Skaramangas Square), once per week for each age group, according to the following schedule:

Wednesday

  • 4:00–5:00 p.m. — children 2–3 years

  • 5:00–6:00 p.m. — children 10 months–2 years

  • 6:00–7:00 p.m. — children 10 months–2 years

Friday

  • 4:00–5:00 p.m. — children 3.5–5.5 years

  • 5:00–6:00 p.m. — children 2–3 years

  • 6:00–7:00 p.m. — children 10 months–2 years

Each group consists of up to 12 children, accompanied by an equal number of parents/caregivers.

The musical activities are based on music-paedagogical approaches and educational material for preschool children developed by the Music Paedagogy Department of the Ionian University.

Children up to 3.5 years old are accompanied by one parent/caregiver, who participates actively in the sessions. Parents of older children may, if they wish, participate, remain in the classroom, or wait in the ground-floor waiting area of the Surgery.

A suggested donation in support of the Surgery is €50 per child for participation in the four-month programme (€80 for two siblings).
(Part of the amount covers the renewal of the programme’s educational materials.)

Payment is made in full upon registration.
Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
