New fines from Municipal Cleaning Service
CORFU. What is prohibited and what is allowed.
(Central Corfu Municipality) The Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands has issued fourteen new fines in the past few days, according to its Cleaning and Recycling Service.
-
Ten fines for cars parked in front of refuse bins (€200 each).
-
Two fines for leaving bulky items on pavements, roads, or other public spaces (€300 each).
-
One fine for dumping rubbish outside bins or without proper packaging (€100 per item or bag).
-
One fine issued to a business for failing to minimise its waste volume (€400 per item or bag).
Authorities remind the public that it is strictly forbidden to leave rubbish outside bins, place bulky waste in public spaces, fail to compress packaging waste before disposal in the appropriate bins, block access to bins with parked vehicles, or abandon construction and demolition debris in bins or public areas.
Officials stress that the goal of the fines is not to punish residents but to encourage respect for basic rules that help keep the island clean.
The municipality’s Cleaning Regulations—available on its website corfu.gr—offer practical guidance on proper waste management.
Residents can also make use of the Small Green Point on Eptanisou Street (Tria Gefyria), a new facility designed for dropping off recyclables and bulky items safely and responsibly.
Hours: Monday to Saturday, 8:30–15:00 (closed on holidays).
Citizens are urged to act responsibly to help protect the island’s natural beauty.
