Flame of Love lights up Corfu - "Give Blood-Save Lives"
CORFU. Pupils set off with enthusiasm from the Ionian Academy, crossed the town΄s historic centre, and spread everywhere the vital message: ΄Give blood – save lives.΄
On Wednesday morning, Corfu sent out a powerful message of life and solidarity, embracing the Blood Donation initiative. The Flame of Love, a symbol of selfless offering, was lit in the morning at the Blood Donation Department of the General Hospital, with the customary blessing, marking the start of a day dedicated to humanity.
Pupils set off with enthusiasm from the Ionian Academy, crossed the town's historic centre, and spread everywhere the vital message: 'Give blood – save lives.'
The event culminates on Wednesday evening (18:00–20:30), when the Flame is ceremonially delivered to the offices of the Corfu Regional Branch of the Hellenic Red Cross, from where the evening route begins. The Corfu Dance Association, the Pontian Society of Corfu, and the Lyceum of Greek Women take an active part, united in a common, sacred purpose: ensuring sufficient blood supplies.
The closing ceremony will culminate at 20:30 at the Liston, where the altar will be lit, illuminating the very heart of the town. This radiant moment serves as a reminder that every bottle of blood is a breath, an opportunity for life for our fellow human beings.
Let us continue to support voluntary blood donation, because it is the simplest, painless, and most meaningful act of solidarity.
