Prosecutor intervenes regarding senior care home, the food, and the complaints

CORFU. More than one case file has been opened regarding the matter, investigating both the issue of expired food and allegations of violence against a staff member.
The Prosecutor’s Office has ordered a preliminary investigation into the case involving expired food items at the senior care home and related events. The investigation concerns both the findings of the health services that carried out the inspections and a complaint alleging assault against the complainant by a member of the institution's administration. The complainant herself turned to the Prosecutor’s Office, providing her testimony there.
As for the food, according to responsible municipal sources, it was indeed marked for disposal and was never used in the residents’ meals. In fact, there was clear labelling indicating it should not be used. However, because the destruction of expired food involves bureaucratic and other procedural requirements, the process was delayed longer than it should have been, resulting in the complaint, inspections, findings, and everything that followed.
Meanwhile, the tensions and publicity appear to have been fueled by an atmosphere of conflict within certain services of the care home, involving staff members.
The president of the care home, Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos, is expected to make an official statement on the matter.
