Protest sit-in at Agros High School
CORFU. Pupils at Agros Junior High School and High School have started a sit-in, following a vote during their general assembly.
On Monday, January 20th, following a vote during the general assembly of the pupils of Agros Junior High School and High School, a decision was made to hold a sit-in. The pupils issued the following statement:
"We demand the safeguarding of our rights to a safe and healthy educational environment, denouncing the indifference of the authorities, who fail to respond with the necessary effectiveness. We demand a resolution to these issues. We are fighting for humane learning conditions and equal opportunities for all pupils. Although the school is designated as a PISA school, it does not meet the required standards (internet connection, computers) for the competition to take place."
Demands
- Immediate repair of infrastructure (temporary prefab units).
- Inadequate funding.
- Protection of pupils' rights for a better educational environment.
- Unsuitable or damaged school furniture and equipment.
- Unsafe and unhealthy conditions.
- Insufficient ventilation in the prefab classrooms.
- Lack of basic hygiene supplies (toilet paper, soap, sanitiser).
- Lack of essential educational materials (A4 paper, printer ink).
- Inappropriate conditions for the only Panhellenic examination centre.
