Athens EYDAP team to assess Corfu water supply problems
ATHENS. The outcome of the meeting at the Ministry of Environment regarding the water supply system and an initial funding of €2 million.
The Corfu delegation secured immediate funding of €2 million from the Ministry of Environment. This funding addresses urgent needs in water supply infrastructure across all three municipalities. Given that the needs are much greater, the Ministry coordinated with EYDAP (Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company), which is dispatching a team to assess the problems in the infrastructure as well as the management of DIADEYAK's companies, which cover the central and southern municipalities, and the newly established DEYA in the north.
The team is expected to be stationed in Corfu immediately, and in any case before the Christmas holidays, as they are tasked with presenting their report within 10 days to trigger additional funding for addressing immediate needs.
These needs have been prioritised as follows: drilling additional boreholes, replacing parts of the problematic network and installing temporary desalination units.
The delegation included mayors Mahimaris, Poulimenos and Hiimariotis (pictured).
