It is the largest Seismological Conference in Europe, serving as a meeting point for academics and researchers distinguished in the field of seismology and related scientific areas.

The European Seismological Commission (ESC), in collaboration with the National and Capodistrian University of Athens, is organising the 39th General Assembly of the European Seismological Commission (ESC) in Corfu. The event is being hosted at the Corfu Holiday Palace hotel, with conference rooms accommodating a total of 1,400 people.

It is the largest Seismological Conference in Europe, serving as a meeting point for academics and researchers distinguished in the field of seismology and related scientific areas.

Throughout the week of September 22 to 27, 2024, in the Nausicaa, Corfu, Lefkas, Zante, Ithaca, Paxos and Krokidis halls of the Corfu Holiday Palace hotel, over 700 researchers from more than 60 countries have been discussing the latest developments in seismology and related scientific fields, with 1,000 scientific paper presentations scheduled.

The topics discussed and presented include seismological networks, seismic hazard and risk assessment, earthquake prediction, artificial intelligence, as well as the social impacts of seismic phenomena.

This variety of topics highlights the importance and interdisciplinary nature of seismology in understanding and addressing natural hazards. Among the speakers are Eleftheria Papadimitriou, Efthimios Lekkas, Gerasimos Papadopoulos, Athanasios Ganas, Atilla Ansal, Rachel Abercrombie and Helle Pedersen.

In the Nausicaa hall, a designated area has been set up with booths for the conference's companies and sponsors, showcasing innovative tools, seismographic instruments, and technical software for the implementation of modern earthquake protection methods.

"It is an honour for us to host this year's General Assembly in Corfu, a place with a long tradition and connection to natural phenomena," stated Professor Nikolaos Voulgaris, Vice President of the ESC and Chair of the Local Organising Committee.

"Our goal is to create a focused event that will uphold the highest scientific and organisational standards, enabling productive discussions and future progress in the field of seismology."
