ATHENS. EasyJet flight EZY8120 had to divert to Rome due to turbulence over Italian airspace in which two crew members were injured.

At least two people were injured on an EasyJet flight from Corfu to London (EZY8120) that was struck by severe turbulence, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing.

According to British media, the Airbus A320 departed from Corfu Airport on Monday afternoon, heading to London Gatwick with 181 passengers and crew.

However, just 20 minutes after takeoff, the aircraft was hit by turbulence while travelling at 485 miles per hour at an altitude of 28,000 feet.

Emergency Landing

Two cabin crew members who were preparing to serve food to the passengers were thrown against the walls of the plane, resulting in injuries. The pilots decided to make an emergency landing at Rome's Fiumicino Airport.

Another plane was sent to pick up the passengers, who eventually arrived in the UK later the same day.

"Safety and the well-being of our customers and crew is EasyJet's top priority, and our pilots are trained to handle turbulence incidents. The flight landed normally in Rome, where customers were assisted at the terminal, and a replacement crew and aircraft were arranged to continue the flight to London Gatwick," an EasyJet spokesperson told CNN.
