CORFU. New, deeper borehole in Kinopiastes, where the aquifer level has dropped.

The deeper borehole in the Agios Gordios area has struck a water vein. DEYAK believes that this year there will no longer be an acute water shortage problem. Meanwhile, they will proceed with a new, deeper borehole in Kinopiastes, where there is a problem with the aquifer, whose level has dropped significantly. The condition of the boreholes carried out by the communities in the past is not very clear to the DEYAK personnel concerning the state of the aquifer. However, the impending problems in the broader area of Central Corfu were visible at least three years ago.

In response to the questions about why the source in Gardiki is not being used, well-informed sources from the company point out: Indeed, it is a source capable of supplying six thousand cubic metres per day. However, the network that connects it to the town is fragile and the distance is long (about 25 km), so it was abandoned about five years ago, when the company turned to the sources in the area of Tzavros. There have been thoughts to supply South Corfu with this water, a plan which is still pending.
