Anti-addiction event at Flagginio a success

CORFU. The public΄s interest was strongly expressed, followed by a productive dialogue highlighting society΄s concerns and worries.

The event, co-organised by the "Stirixi" (Support) Association Against Addictions and AIDS, along with DIMOP "Nikos Moros," KETHEA Epirus, the Corfu General Hospital "DIAPLUS" Parents and Friends Association, and Anemomylos Cultural & Environmental Society, was successfully held yesterday, Wednesday, July 10, at the Flagginio Cultural Centre. The theme of the event was:

"The new facts about addictions - prevention policies and treatment."

The speakers discussed the topic and the new policies arising from the new government bill, which was put up for public consultation:

  • Menis Mallioris, Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the National and Capodistrian University of Athens, Representative of the European Parliament on the Board of the European Union's Drug Agency.
  • Anneta Tselenti, Psychiatrist, Scientific Director of DIMOP "Nikos Moros."
  • Ilias Michalareas, Doctor of Psychology, Scientific Director of the Corfu General Hospital "DIAPLUS" Programme.
  • Ioannis Papachristou, Sociologist, Head of the Therapeutic Programme at KETHEA Epirus.

The speakers analysed the current conditions and the problems that need to be addressed by the new law, both organisationally, preventively, and therapeutically. They called on the government to respond responsibly to the new needs of this significant social and scientific problem of addictions.
